About Us

The Sagamore Bridge Club is a new and exciting venue offering a great environment to socialize and enjoy the game of bridge, while continuing the traditions of the 110 Bridge Club.

We are not a club, we are a home. Our games are pressure free for players of all levels and what really sets us apart is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

We offer state-of-the-art technology at every duplicate game with handheld bridge scoring systems and hand records at the end of each session. ACBL masterpoints awarded at every game!

During the day, we include a Hot Buffet lunch including a salad bar and custom deli sandwich options.  We serve dessert, snacks, coffee and iced tea.  In the evenings, we offer a discounted card fee and serve dessert and refreshments.

Join us for some exciting bridge!

OUR FAMILY...

Joan Asheroff- Director

Joan, a graduate of Hofstra University with a BA in Education and a Masters in Admin/Education from C.W. Post University, has worn many hats. She has been a public and private school teacher, a private school principal, an ACBL bridge teacher to adults and young teens and a bridge director. Each of her hats have a common thread, education.

Besides directing several duplicate bridge games each week (she has directed on cruise ships, too) she continues to work privately with both groups and individuals. At the present time, she teaches a bridge course at an a ssisted living facility in Suffolk. She just recently completed teaching a 16-week after school program in Huntington to 18 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.

As a Gold Life Master and proud tournament winner, she has accumulated over 4,000 masterpoints and continues to be an accomplished and respected bridge player.

Bridge has played a very important and dynamic part in her life. She says she is always happy when she can help others develop a love for this wonderful and challenging game.

Joe Byrnes- Instructor

Josh Fendel- Director

Like many others, Josh has had two bridge careers.  The first was in college at Columbia, where he was lucky enough to be mentored by and play frequently with the late, great Jimmy Becker, who later went on to found the Beverly Bridge Club in NYC and achieve national fame as a player and teacher.  During those years, bridge was clearly Josh’s college major, as he both captained the school bridge team and directed the weekly game as president of the college bridge club.

Josh quit playing shortly after college in order to marry, have children and build a career as a psychotherapist, which he still practices on a full-time basis.  However, in the early 1990’s a friend invited him to play in a local duplicate game.  From that point on, Josh was “hooked” again, playing regularly with both his wife Barbara and several other regular partners, locally and at tournaments around the country.  Soon after, he become a Life Master, took the Director’s exam and took Irma and Dave’s invitation to direct at 110, which he has been doing regularly ever since.

Josh’s strengths as a director are both as his interest in and concern with the “rules” and also his people skills, honed over the years as a therapist.

Robert Frick- Director/ Instructor

Bob Frick loves directing. He participates in a mailing list about bridge laws and has some small influence on the the international level.  His articles about bridge have been published and he has written many computer programs that have shaped the way most of Long Island's bridge clubs utilize their websites to communicate results and information to their players.  He is also the official webmaster for the Nassau Suffolk Bridge Association.

As a director, Bob enjoys visiting a table to make a ruling, and he recognizes the importance of players understanding the ruling and -- most importantly -- enjoying bridge.  He is a much better player than his 1000 masterpoints suggest.

In a past life he earned a PhD in psychology and was a Professor at Stony Brook University.

Drew Tarhan- Director

Drew directs our newest game at the Sands Point Village Club on Tuesday evenings.

Jackie Lipson- Director

Jackie’s friend Audrey (owner of the now-closed Grand Bridge Club), convinced Jackie to take the director’s exam 35 years ago so that she would have directorial coverage of her games while she competed in tournaments. She was mentored by the “unofficial bridge mother”, Rosalie Gould and went on to make it a full-time job and continues to do so. She is an avid lover of competitive social games such as Poker and Mah Jongg. She is also an accredited ACBL teacher of bridge.

Sandra Logan- Food Service Manager

Teresita Logan- Club Assistant

Lucy Shostak- Director

Prior to bridge, for 33 years, Lucy was a physical education teacher.  In 1991, she was awarded the Elementary Teacher of the Year award presented by the New York State American Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Association. Today, an accomplished Silver Life Master, she is a ACBL certified director and accredited teacher of bridge. She has directed bridge for over 35 years and is a Winner of the Channel 21 Trophy Game 1977.
